How was Lidl-Trek involved in the development of this helmet?
The riders of Lidl-Trek were involved in many key phases of development. Rider interviews informed design parameters. A study of rider positions influenced computer testing assumptions and mannequin positions within the wind tunnel. Additional rider testing and interviews informed prototype refinement.
Who is Velocis designed for?
Velocis is an all-around race helmet designed to meet the demands of Lidl-Trek. The qualities that make Velocis the ideal race helmet – lightweight, cool, and fast – make it the perfect helmet any gram-counting road or XC racer, cool enough for long, hot days on gravel roads, and fast enough for triathletes who appreciate a bit more ventilation.
What is an Asia Fit helmet?
To create a helmet better suited to head shapes more common in Asia, Trek undertook extensive research across six regions and analyzed more than 1,500 people to create a Asia-specific helmet fit. The Asia fit offers a more rounded shape in contrast to the more ovular shape of Western fit helmets, which are often less comfortable to people with round head shapes.
How does Velocis compare to Ballista?
Velocis was designed to prioritize weight and ventilation, while Ballista was designed to prioritize aerodynamics. When comparing critical performance factors, Velocis is lighter and cooler, but not as aerodynamic. Both helmets share the same Mips® Air safety system, BOA® fit system, LockDown divider, and lightweight buckle.
How much does the Velocis weigh?
Velocis is Trek’s lightest adult helmet. The new Velocis weighs 235 g for the CE Europe version, 235 g for the AS/NZS Australia and New Zealand version, and 260g for the CPSC US version. All weights provided are for size M. All versions of the current generation weigh less than the prior generation.
How cool is Velocis?
Velocis is a very cool helmet. The vent and channel design for the new Velocis greatly improves airflow within the helmet, making it a much cooler than the prior generation.
How fast is Velocis?
The improved vent and channel design coupled with new airfoil-shaped bridge improves the aerodynamic efficiency of the helmet, making this generation faster than the prior generation.
What Mips system does Velocis use?
The new Velocis uses a Mips® Air safety system, which is a lightweight, fully integrated system that provides better cooling through use of a perforated polycarbonate layer that is adhered to moisture-wicking fit pads.
Are the Mips pads washable?
The Mips® Air system can be washed by carefully rinsing by hand in lukewarm water and air drying at room temperature.
What type of fit system does Velocis use?
The Velocis fit system uses BOA® S series micro-adjustable dial for comfort and light weight.
Why is the beveled front an important feature?
For some riders, the front of a helmet can obstruct their field of view, especially when riding in tucked aero position. Trek’s engineers conducted a line-of-sight study to understand the range of view a rider should have in various positions on the bike and introduced a beveled edge to Velocis to ensure the necessary visibility.
