TQ HPR60 - quiet, smooth, with plenty of boost | Trek bikes

Small. Light. Quiet. Natural.

The heart of TQ’s e-bike transmission is HPR60 — a harmonic pin ring transmission that’s simple, refined, and supremely quiet. Tipping the scale at just 1900g, HPR60 is lighter than most e-bike drive units on the market, while still delivering an ultra-smooth 60Nm of support to help you get more out of every mile.

The inner workings

Harmonic pin ring transmissions use three concentric precision pieces — an elliptical wave generator, inner flex spline, and circular spline that come together to propel you forward. This compact design is not only lighter and smaller than most e-bike motors, but by forgoing toothed gears and belt drives, it’s also smoother-feeling and more durable, too.  TQ’s harmonic pin rings motors are used everywhere from lunar landers to surgery robots due to their precise, durable nature, and for those same reasons, they’re incredible in e-bikes, too.

Light

Tipping the scale at just 1900g, HPR60 is lighter than most drive units on the market.

Small

HPR60 tucks neatly behind the front chainring for the clean look of a traditional bike.

Quiet

Foregoing noisy belts and geared teeth, HPR60 measures in as much quieter than other systems.

Q-Factor

The small size of HPR60 allows for a minimal 135mm Q-factor (the distance between the outside of one crank and the outside of the opposite crank), providing a comfortable riding position similar to a non-electric bike.

Power density

A balanced 60Nm of torque gives just the right amount of assist for a ride that doesn’t jerk you around like a full-powered 85-100Nm e-bike.

TQ’s two-inch integrated display sits flush in the top tube, keeping your setup discrete while providing crisp, bright details from a bird’s eye. The bright contrast stays visible in blinding sunlight and offers just enough information without overwhelming. A single button turns the system on and off and allows you to toggle through screens, so you can see your speed, estimated remaining range, battery percentage, and more. Plus, 9.8 and 9.9 models get added color on the display for extra clear motor metrics.

Streamlined flat bar remote

Small, stealthy, and easy for everyone but your thumb to miss. The handlebar-located remote features two buttons that allow you to toggle through support modes, engage walk assist, and turn off assistance right from the comfort of your grips. Easily unplug the remote when you need to change or replace components.

Hood-mounted drop bar controls

Discreet yet intuitive, hood-mounted mode control buttons let you easily switch between the three levels of natural-feeling assist. It’s just like shifting on a regular drop bar bike, just with a little extra pep in your pedals.

A better battery

Powerhouse 580Wh e-MTB battery

With a more efficient motor, you don’t need an oversized, heavy battery like you find on high-powered e-MTBs. With TQ’s 580Wh, you get plenty of range in a lighter, 2700g package. Unlike most light or mid power e-MTB systems, the battery is easy to remove from your Slash+ or Fuel+ for simple transport or charging. Just remove the two bolts, pull off the guard, and pull out the battery by the handle.

Lightweight 360Wh battery

Get the boost you need for road adventures with the featherweight 360Wh battery. Weighing just 1835g, this battery keeps your ride light, charges in just two to three hours, and gives you plenty of power for the open road. And just like its bigger sibling, it’s easy to remove for travel or charging. Just remove two bolts and pull the battery out by the handle.

Ride farther

Want more miles from every ride? The sleek 160Wh Range Extender fits snugly into your bottle cage to charge your bike while you ride, so you can go farther without range anxiety.

Who is TQ?

TQ is a hard hitter in the e-bike world here to refine and redefine the way we ride. Delivering the best of both electric and traditional bikes, TQ’s harmonic pin ring transmission measures in lighter, quieter, and smaller than most other e-bike drive units on the market. Wherever you roam, its assist feels natural and keeps you one with the ride.

Formed in 1994 as "Technologie in Qualität" in the blue lake land of Bavaria, TQ has grown from two founders to a team of over 1,700 employees across 14 locations, with a passion for innovation. Firmly established as one of Germany’s largest and best electronic product specialists in the fields of robotics, embedded systems, automation, medical technology, and aerospace. You’ll find TQ in the moon-rover and robots performing surgery — systems that need to be equally precise and dependable.

TQ embarked on the e-bike journey as long ago as 2008 and has been building the passion, expertise, hardware, industry connections, and plenty of ride time to prove it all out. In short, TQ is your riding buddy who can hold their own with the best while also articulating the subtle nuances of riding to the most minute detail.

Creating a system this new and this different took heaps of collaboration and a whole lot of prototypes. Through the development process, Germany-based TQ and US-based Trek worked exclusively together to fine-tune the HPR50 transmission system for a ride feel that’s unlike anything cycling has ever seen.

Made by bike people passionate about finding a better way to ride, HPR50 provides nearly invisible assist that feels like a hand at your back on steep climbs and stays nimble and natural whether weaving down steep canyon roads or through technical trail terrain.
