Trek Line MTB Grips FAQ

What does it mean to have a core cutout?

Lock-on grips typically feature a solid core that locks onto the bar and secures a softer, external treaded compound(grip) to the bar. Core cutouts are areas where the internal solid core has been cut away, creating a relief zone and providing additional room for more of the softer, treaded compound material between you and the handlebar. This helps create a softer feel with better vibration damping.

Do the Line MTB grips have a left and right grip?

Yes, each grip has a directional tread pattern designed to provide more comfort and traction for each hand. They feature an L and R marking on the grip tread, near the outer part of the grip, opposite the Trek brand, so it’s easy to tell which is which.

How should you set up the grips on the bar?

First make sure you have the left on the left side and the right on the right side. Next make sure the largest tread cubes land under the palm and the smallest land under the fingers when in the riding position on the bike. Then, securely tighten the clamps into place, torquing to a maximum of 3Nm.

Are the grips made from recycled materials?

Yes, both the core and the tread compounds of the grips are made, in part, from recycled materials. The grip cores are made from 47% recycled material and the grip treads are made from 20% recycled material.

What is the torque spec for the lock on clamps for the grips?

What size Hex tool do you need to tighten the clamp?
