Mips is a helmet safety technology that is comprised of a low-friction layer attached to the inside of a helmet designed to help prevent certain cycling-related brain injuries that can result from angled impacts. The low-friction layer is designed to help reduce rotational motion of the head.

Trek Solstice Mips youth and child helmets are available in two different circumferences, 48-52 cm (child) and 50-55 cm (youth). For more sizing information and how to fit a helmet, please visit the Trek U video referenced below or simply measure the circumference of your head using a cloth tape measure or a piece of string and a ruler. Be sure to measure horizontally across your brow and over your ears, then use the bike helmet size chart below to find the proper helmet size based on your measurement.

The Trek Solstice Mips helmet is made of numerous materials, consisting of a protective foam layer made of EPS and a polycarbonate shell. The remaining materials consist of various types of plastic.
Replace an old helmet or a helmet with damage. The helmet is designed to absorb shock by partial destruction of the shell and liner. This damage may not be visible. Therefore, if subjected to a severe blow, the helmet should be destroyed and replaced even if it appears undamaged.The helmet has a limited lifespan in use and should be replaced when it shows obvious signs of wear.
Helmet parts lose strength over time, so even if the helmet has not been impacted or damaged, replace it after three years from date of purchase.
Trek Solstice Mips complies with U.S. CPSC safety standards for bicycle helmets, the EU CE safety standards for bicycle helmets, and the AS/NZS safety standards for Australia and New Zealand. The helmet also meets ASTM standars, their tests use a smaller mass headform more realistic to younger riders.
