FAQ - FX Sport Carbon

What is different about the frame compared to previous versions?

It’s lighter, costs less, has more tyre clearance, a taller head tube and full front and rear rack and bag mounts, including frame bag mounts under the top tube. Since it now has bigger tyres that offer a more comfortable ride, we’ve removed IsoSpeed to save weight and cost.

What is the maximum tyre size with and without mudguards?

700x40 with mudguards, 700x42 without.

What type of bottom bracket does it use?

PressFit, 86 mm

What is the maximum chain ring size? Minimum?

Max chain ring – 44T
Minimum – 34T on the stock crank

Is it compatible with front derailleurs?

No.

Does it have any accessory mounts?

Yes – the frame includes bag mounts under the top tube for the Bontrager Adventure Boss frame bag, as well as dedicated rack and mudguard mounts and low-rider rack mounts on the fork.

Please note: additional hardware is required for rear-rack installation. You’ll need either an eyeletted seat collar (SKU 415184 or 415183) to provide the upper attachment point, or a mudguard-and-rack system where the rack mounts directly to the mudguard.

Which front racks will fit on an FX Sport?

We recommend only using front racks with a 5-points of attachment on the FX Sport like our Bontrager Carry Forward Front Rack (SKU 547612)

What is the hub spacing? Axle size?

100x5 mm non-QR, bolt-on skewer front; 135x5 mm non-QR, bolt-on skewer rear.

What are the front and rear brake mounts and front and rear max rotor sizes?

Flat mount, 160mm rotor.

Is it compatible with child seats?

Child seats require a rear rack that is rated to 27 kg. All Bontrager rear racks are rated to 25 kg, so we don’t recommend child seats.

Is it compatible with trailers?

No. The rear skewer arrangement will not accommodate an axle-mount hitch.
