The Project One EnvironOxide™ paint series is all about creating premium colorways that also do good for the planet. Our Project One paint team partnered with Iron Oxide Recovery, Inc. – an organization that cleans waterways polluted by coal mining – to gain access to some of the only environmentally-preferred paint pigments in the world.
Here’s how it works
Iron Oxide Recovery, Inc. removes excess iron from abandoned mine drainage using a waste-free, natural sedimentation process. Then, instead of taking the recovered iron to a landfill, the materials are dried naturally with wind and sun and repurposed for use in a wide range of products — including EnvironOxide™ paint pigments. Not only does this process clean polluted waterways, but it reduces the need to mine for the raw iron oxide minerals used in creating paint pigments.
While only a small victory toward our sustainability efforts, our Project One team plans to continue to reevaluate its processes and implement techniques like this to help support a more sustainable future.
