About Domane+ SL
Detailed setup and service information (including routing instructions, light mounting, cockpit swaps, torque specs, and part numbers) is available in the Domane+ SL Service Manual
Service ManualsDomane+ SL is a carbon performance road bike with a discreet, seamlessly integrated TQ HPR40 electric motor that provides up to 28mph (US) of smooth, natural-feeling assist. It’s built with 500 Series OCLV Carbon and features Road Endurance Geometry for all-day comfort. Available in three models: Domane+ SL 6 AXS (360Wh battery), Domane+ SL 7 AXS, and Domane+ SL 9 AXS — with the SL 7 and SL 9 models offering a choice of 360Wh or 580Wh battery in Project One. It's Trek's lightest and longest-range Domane+ ever.
Key updates include:
Domane+ SL uses Road Endurance Geometry, which features a taller head tube and longer wheelbase compared to race-oriented bikes like Madone. This maximizes comfort and stability on long rides while keeping the bike fast and confident.
Domane+ SL is available in six frame sizes: XS, S, M, ML, L, and XL.
500 Series OCLV Carbon frame and fork. This makes Domane+ SL Trek's lightest Domane+ to date.
No. Gen 5 Domane removes IsoSpeed for a lighter, simpler design. The 27.2mm round carbon seatpost, larger tire clearance, and larger tire spec work together to help absorb road chatter.
The Domane Riser road handlebar comes on most Domane+ SL models and is designed to put riders in a more upright, comfortable position without requiring a positive stem angle.
Key specs:
No. If you prefer a lower or more aggressive riding position, a traditional road handlebar or an aero option is compatible. Talk to your Trek retailer about fit options.
The TQ Motor & E-System
Domane+ SL uses the TQ HPR40 mid-drive motor. It's compact, lightweight, and uses a harmonic pin ring (HPR) drive — no gears or belts, which means it's quieter, smaller, and more reliable than conventional e-bike motors.
Most e-bike motors use gears and belts to transmit power. These take up space and can make noise or break over time. The TQ HPR40 uses a harmonic drive transmission that is small, mechanically simple, and very dependable. The result is a motor that looks and sounds far more like a conventional road bike.
28mph in the US. 25kph in EU and Australia. 45kph in New Zealand. Other markets are subject to local speed regulations.
Yes. All bikes come with the TQ SmartBox installed. It has output ports for a front light, rear light, auxiliary power, and electronic shifting. Integrated front (daytime running light) and rear lights come standard and are wired to the TQ battery so you charge everything at once.
No. Walk assist is not available on Domane+ SL.
Follow the temperature range guidelines in the TQ HPR40 Quick Start Guide, available on the Service Manuals page.
Service ManualsThe TQ system includes a power sensor accurate enough to provide smooth, natural assist, but it is not accurate enough for athletic training data. For training purposes, Trek recommends a dedicated pedal-based power meter.
Yes. The torque vs. cadence curve is flattest between 60–90 RPM, and peak torque begins to fall off around 95 RPM. Riding in that range gives you the most efficient and natural-feeling assist.
The TQ motor requires firmware updates only, which are performed by a Trek retailer using the TQ service tool. E-system components are intended to be serviced by dealers. Please contact your local Trek retailer for any issues.
Yes. Trek distribution centers stock TQ components used on Domane+ SL, as well as the optional Range Extender battery, harness, and cable.
Yes. Even with a depleted battery, the system will supply approximately 300 shifts to the rear derailleur after motor assist stops.
Yes. On AXS-equipped bikes, the SRAM bonus buttons can be synced to control TQ support modes. Syncing is done using the TQ Diagnostic Service Tool (DST) or through the Trek Central / TQ app. See your retailer or the Trek Central app for setup instructions.
Learn more about Trek CentralBattery & Range
Battery options depend on the model:
In Eco Mode: approximately 70 miles with the 360Wh battery, or approximately 115 miles with the 580Wh battery (available on SL 7 AXS and SL 9 AXS in Project One). Range varies significantly based on rider weight, assist level, terrain, tire choice, and riding style. The Trek Central app provides real-time range estimates based on your route and settings.
Yes. Trek distribution centers stock TQ batteries. Note: due to hazmat shipping regulations, batteries cannot be returned once purchased.
Yes. The battery can be charged while installed in the bike via the charge port on the seat tube. It can also be removed and charged separately, though battery removal is a more involved process (see below).
Approximately two hours for the 360Wh battery. Charge time for the 580Wh battery will be longer — refer to the TQ Quick Start Guide on the Trek Bikes manuals page for exact specs.
Service ManualsNo. The battery management system stops charging automatically when full. However, never leave a charging battery unattended.
No, but you should charge it promptly. The battery can be damaged by being stored in a fully discharged state. If you aren't riding for three months or more, keep the battery above 30% charge.
Please note that the battery will only last to about 15% of its full capacity the first time it is depleted. So don’t be alarmed if the range on your first ride is a little shorter than expected. After the first full depletion and subsequent charging, the battery management system will “learn” what it needs to know and will deplete all the way to 0% on future rides. Also note that any time the battery reaches less than 10% charge, the motor output will be reduced to protect the battery. The battery level indicator will flash to indicate Low Battery mode.
Battery removal requires some mechanical aptitude but is achievable by an experienced home mechanic in approximately 15 to 30 minutes: remove the drive unit cover, remove the drive unit, remove the screws holding the battery charge port in place, then remove the battery. Reinstall in reverse order. For most riders, we recommend having a Trek retailer handle battery removal and installation.
No. The battery is housed inside the downtube, which takes the place of internal storage found on some other bike frames.
App & Connectivity
Yes! You can download the Trek Central app on iOS or Android.
Learn more about Trek CentralTrek Central does everything the TQ app does: motor tuning customization, range estimations, e-system diagnostics, and general e-system information. It also adds Trek-specific features: tire pressure recommendations, service reminders, turn-by-turn navigation with range awareness, and activity tracking. Trek Central is the recommended app.
Yes. Domane+ SL pairs with most Bluetooth and ANT+ cycling computers, including Garmin, Wahoo, and others.
Yes. Both the Trek Central and TQ apps allow you to adjust max power, assist factor, and pedal response per assist level. Changes can be reset to factory defaults at any time.
Assist Modes & Riding
Three assist modes.
Mode-change buttons are mounted to the handlebars, so you can shift assist levels without taking your hands off the controls. On SRAM AXS-equipped bikes, the AXS bonus buttons can also be synced to control assist modes.
Yes. Domane+ SL is an all-road bike designed for everything from smooth pavement to rough roads and light crushed gravel. The 40mm tire clearance is a big part of what makes this possible.
Range Extender
Yes. A Range Extender battery (160Wh) is available through your local Trek retailer. It mounts to the downtube bottle cage mounts. Range Extender batteries are not eligible for return by the retailer due to hazmat shipping regulations.
You'll also need the power cable (5289576) and the retention strap (5299107). If the strap does not include four button head cap fasteners (W575056), contact Trek Customer Care.
The Range Extender is 160Wh and adds approximately 40% more range on top of the 360Wh internal battery. The Range Extender is designed for use with the 360Wh battery configuration. If you are configuring a Domane+ SL 7 AXS or SL 9 AXS in Project One and want maximum range, the 580Wh battery option will give you approximately 115 miles without needing an external Range Extender.
Yes, but the Range Extender fits into a water bottle cage, so you will lose capacity for one bottle.
Yes! Just leave the main battery behind and carry the 160Wh Range Extender in your carry-on. Always check with your airline before traveling to confirm compliance with current regulations.
Approximately one hour.
Trek strongly recommends the Bontrager Side Load cage (5324465) with the retention strap (5325177). Other cages may fit but have not been tested. Always use the retention strap.
