A mountain biker’s ponytail flies up as she hits a jump. She’s silhouetted against the ocean at sunset.

More and more women are hitting the dirt and discovering the fun and freedom of the trail. Here, we’ll discuss what makes a mountain bike women-specific, and highlight some of our favourite women who shred.

What is a women’s mountain bike?

In the past, Trek’s Women’s Specific Design gave female riders a better chance at finding a bike that would fit right from the start. Now, many of the design elements we first created for women’s mountain bikes, like lower standover height and smaller sizes, are used on bikes for all genders, because these features benefit all riders.

Instead of having a select few models targeted toward women, we’ve expanded the size and colour choices for all our mountain bikes. Which means all genders have more options than ever.

Plus, in our effort to ensure every rider gets the best fit possible, we offer a Bontrager women’s mountain bike saddle swap on every carbon bike purchase at no extra charge. And we still offer our entry-level bikes with women's specific touchpoints so newer cyclists can ride in comfort without having to swap their saddle.

The women of Trek Factory Racing XC

Between Jolanda Neff, Emily Batty and Evie Richards, Trek Factory Racing XC has one stacked roster. Not only are they great racers, they’re also some of the best people we know.
