Grips that keep plastic out of oceans

The world’s ocean plastic problem

Since 2007, the world has produced over four billion tons of plastic. And each year, five million tons of it makes its way into our oceans, wreaking havoc on the ecosystem and marine life.
This has to change.

The solution, according to our partner Plastix, is a massive shift toward a circular economy where the world’s plastic never becomes waste,

They focus on capturing ocean-bound plastics and converting them to raw material, which can then be manufactured into other products—including some you’ll use every day on your bike.

Bontrager XR Trail Grips with recycled plastic cores

Thanks to our partnership with Plastix, Bontrager XR Trail Grips give a second life into ocean-bound plastics. Every grip has a recycled core made from gathered end-of-life fishing nets, ropes, and post-use rigid plastics.

XR Trail Pro

XR Trail Pro is a dual lock-on MTB grip with a wider 32mm diameter for more to grab onto when things get rowdy. Each clamp features an alloy CoreLock design for secure positioning and provides dependable, predictable performance.

XR Trail Elite

XR Trail Elite is a durable lock-on grip with an alloy CoreLock design and a solid, predictable feel and performance. The higher density endcaps resist scraping and hold up even if you lay the bike down. The 31mm diameter hits the sweet spot for most riders.

XR Trail Comp

XR Trail Comp is a comfortable lock-on grip with a single nylon CoreLock design that balances value with maximum grip retention. The 31mm diameter feels right at home for most riders.

Getting a grip on sustainability

We’re proud to partner with Plastix on Bontrager’s all-new XR Trail Grips to help keep plastic out of our oceans.

This isn’t a new process for us—our Bat Cage is also made from end-of-life fishing nets—but it is an exciting move to a new product category. And more importantly, this expansion sets the stage for a more sustainable manufacturing method for all plastic bike parts.
