What is Mips?

Mips is a helmet safety technology that is comprised of a low-friction layer attached to the inside of a helmet designed to help prevent certain cycling-related brain injuries that can result from angled impacts. The low-friction layer is designed to help reduce rotational motion of the head.

Are the helmet pads replaceable?

Are the helmet pads washable?

The helmet pads can be washed by carefully rinsing by hand in lukewarm water and air drying at room temperature.

What type of fit system does Solstice use?

The Solstice Mips features a Headmaster 3 fit system, which allow the rider to easily adjust the fit of the helmet with one hand.

How does the adjustment dial work?

The Solstice Mips features a Headmaster 3 fit system. Turn the dial clockwise to tighten, and counterclockwise to loosen. It's that simple!

What type of strap divider does Solstice use?

The Solstice Mips uses a fixed, lay-flat strap divider that is secure, easy to manage, and always lays flat to your face.

What type of buckle does Solstice use?

The Solstice Mips uses a standard bike helmet buckle to ensure a secure fit.

What colors are available?

Trek Solstice Mips adult helmets are available in 6 color options: Black Matte, Crystal White Matte, Radioactive Yellow Gloss, Mulsanne Blue Matte, Radioactive Red Gloss, and Volt to Miami Fade Matte.

What sizes are available?

Trek Solstice Mips adult helmets are available in Small/Medium (51-58 cm) and Medium/Large (55-61 cm). For more sizing information and how to fit a helmet, please visit the Trek U video referenced above or simply measure the circumference of your head using a cloth tape measure or a piece of string and a ruler. Be sure to measure horizontally across your brow and over your ears, then use the bike helmet size chart below to find the proper helmet size based on your measurement.

How much does the helmet weigh?

The new Trek Solstice Mips adult S/M size weighs 335g for the CPSC US version and the adult M/L size weights 375g.

What is the helmet made of?

The Trek Solstice Mips helmet is made of numerous materials, consisting of a protective foam layer made of EPS and a polycarbonate shell. The remaining materials consist of various types of plastic.

When should I replace my helmet?

Replace an old helmet or a helmet with damage. The helmet is designed to absorb shock by partial destruction of the shell and liner. This damage may not be visible. Therefore, if subjected to a severe blow, the helmet should be destroyed and replaced even if it appears undamaged.The helmet has a limited lifespan in use and should be replaced when it shows obvious signs of wear.

Helmet parts lose strength over time, so even if the helmet has not been impacted or damaged, replace it after three years from date of purchase.

What safety standards does the helmet comply with?

Trek Solstice Mips complies with U.S. CPSC safety standards for bicycle helmets, the EU CE safety standards for bicycle helmets, and the AS/NZS safety standards for Australia and New Zealand.
