(Traverse City, MI) – Sheboygan native Brian Matter used his Midwestern XC race experience and Wisconsin-made Trek Elite 9.9 SSL hardtail to power through mud and snow to another Iceman Cometh win last Saturday, marking the third time the Elite racer has taken home the Ice Trophy since 2004.

Matter endured most of the 30-mile XC race as part of a small group that led the Elite men’s field—including 2009 Iceman winner Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski, Todd Wells and Jeremiah Bishop—before opening up a 16 second gap in the final kilometers that the rest of the field could not reel in.

“The key decision I made for this race was hopping onto Trek’s Elite 9.9 SSL hardtail,” said Matter during a post-race interview. “Iceman is known for rolling climb after rolling climb, so it made a huge difference to be able to just step on it and feel the acceleration right away. The bike was smooth, but really punchy and handled amazing.”

As Trek’s flagship full-carbon 26er hardtail XC Race bike, the Elite 9.9 SSL boasts a Wisconsin-made full-carbon OCLV Mountain frame, a net-molded E2 tapered head tube, an integrated BB90 bottom bracket with precision fit sockets, internal control routing, and a no-cut off-road seat mast. It’s the ideal race rig for riders like Matter who demand the lightest, stiffest and strongest off-road racing bikes on the planet.
