Saddle sizing and riding posture

Riding posture

It’s a common myth that bigger bike seats are more comfortable. In reality, the biggest factor in a saddle’s comfort is whether or not it’s designed for the position your ride in. Your riding posture impacts what part of your pelvis contacts the saddle, so comfort isn’t based so much on how much padding a saddle has, but rather how the saddle is designed to support you.

We use five different riding postures to categorize our saddles, ranging from our most aerodynamic triathlon posture to an upright and comfort-focused fit. Find the posture that best matches how you ride below, then shop the saddles.

Saddle sizing

We make saddles for every rider, and the best saddle for you is one that fits your body. Men tend to have narrower sit bones and prefer narrower saddles, while women typically find wider saddles most comfortable. Your riding posture also impacts your ideal fit. Use this chart to help guide your choice.

Race and Performance saddles — Men: 145mm, Women: 155mm
Fitness saddles — Men: 165mm, Women: 185mm
Comfort saddles — Men: 205mm, Women: 225mm

Triathlon and time trail posture

In a triathlon or time trial, you want every advantage against the wind. These saddles are designed to support riders who take the most aggressive aerodynamic posture.

Race posture

Ideal for road, gravel, and cross-country mountain bike racing. These saddles support riders in a forward position, helping them deliver power and performance.

Performance posture

Most enthusiasts — and even many racers — find the best fit on a performance saddle. These saddles are a great choice for endurance road and gravel riders, trail riders, and anyone who rides for speed and distance milestones.

Fitness posture

If you like to get in a workout on your rides, but take a slightly more upright position than what you commonly see on a drop-bar road bike, these saddles are the ideal fit for you.

Comfort posture

If you’re a casual rider who enjoys riding in a comfortable, upright posture so you can take in the sights, these saddles are the perfect choice for you.

Short nose saddles

Short-nose saddles take a less-is-more approach to performance, eliminating excess length and keeping only the parts that matter for comfort and support. With fewer materials and a compact shape, they often weigh less without sacrificing ride quality.

Fluid tech that moves with you

Trek’s patented Fluid Technology adds a flexible fluid layer that moves naturally with your body as you pedal, reducing friction and peak pressure in critical zones — so you stay more comfortable, no matter how long or hard you ride.
