What are the new/key features on this platform?

– -NEW TQ HPR60 drive unit that's not only more powerful, but quieter and more efficient too
– 580 WH battery
– New colour display on Fuel+ 9.8 and 9.9
– By swapping rocker links, lower shock mounts and suspension and/or wheels, the Fuel+ can be built in three unique configurations to accommodate rider preferences and terrain:

Fuel+ EX: 145 mm/150 mm 29er
Fuel+ MX: 150 mm/160 mm MX (29 front, 27.5 rear)
Fuel+ LX: 160 mm/170 mm 29er

– New frame design that increases dropper insertion, standover clearance and front triangle space for more clearance for reservoir shocks, water bottles or other accessories.
– ZS standard headset to allow for aftermarket options, including angle-adjust
– Updated cable routing and chainstay guard for a super-quiet ride
– Offered in Project One MTB for parts customisation from the factory, including options for a coil spring, different dropper post lengths and more.

Is there an option to run 27.5” front and rear?

No. All these frames in all sizes are designed around a 29” front wheel.

Can I change my rear wheel size without changing the rocker link or lower shock mount?

No. The geometry correction for switching between wheel sizes comes from both the rocker link and lower shock mount.
If you don’t change both parts when you switch rear wheel sizes, you’ll end up with either a super low bottom bracket, causing pedal strikes, or a super-high bottom bracket and correspondingly steep head tube angle, causing twitchy, unstable handling.

Can I make my Fuel LX into a longer-travel MX by just changing the rocker link, lower shock mount and rear wheel?

Yes. You can convert a Fuel+ LX build to a 27.5 rear wheel with only the wheel, MX rocker link and lower shock mount. By keeping the 205 x 65 stroke shock, you will get 163 mm of travel vs the stock MX build with a 205 x 60 shock and 150 mm travel.

Can I install a longer-stroke shock on my Fuel EX for more rear travel?

Yes. You can install a 205 x 65 shock (max) on your Fuel EX with no other changes for 156 mm of rear travel. However, you won’t get the more progressive leverage rate that would come with swapping to the LX rocker link and lower shock mount.

Why does my size Small EX have an MX rocker link?

Size Small Fuel EX and Fuel+ EX models will come with a 29” front wheel, 27.5” rear wheel, 205 x 60 shock and 150 mm of travel front and rear. The difference between size S EX and size S MX is that MX bikes will come with 160 mm forks and are only available as complete bikes in the 9.8 or 9.9 models.

Our rider research has shown that most size S riders prefer a 27.5” rear wheel for a more proportional fit, and more back-wheel-to-body clearance on jumps and descents. Since most common bike-in-a-box (non-P1) Fuel and Fuel+ models will be sold as Fuel EX, we chose to build the size S with the MX rocker link and LSM so that these riders will get the most-commonly preferred set-up straight out of the box, without having to buy the parts to make the swap to MX themselves.

Size S riders who prefer 29” front and rear wheels can swap the rocker link and LSM and their rear wheel for a full 29er Fuel EX or Fuel+ EX. Or they can also get a size S Fuel LX or Fuel+ LX with 29” wheels right out of the box through the Project One programme.

Any size frame can be built in any of the three configurations

Will changing the rear wheel size affect my speed readings or assist cut-off speed?

Yes. If you change your rear wheel size, you must visit your local Trek retailer to have the e-system updated for the new wheel diameter. Not doing so may cause your bike to provide assist above the legally allowed speed limit, which makes it illegal to operate on trails designated for Class 1 eMTBs. Or it may cause your bike to stop providing assist below the legally allowed speed limit.

Will Trek stock the parts required to change from EX to MX or LX?

Trek will stock the rocker links, lower shock mounts, wheels and tyres globally. Suspension availability will vary by market, but will generally need to be sourced from in-market distributors.

How does swapping between EX, MX and LX affect the geometry?

Most geometry measurements stay the same or have negligible changes. The main change is headtube angle. EX – 64.5; MX – 64.2; LX – 63.5

Which aftermarket shocks are compatible?

The new frame layout leaves loads of room for aftermarket shocks. Most shocks will fit, including all current Fox and RockShox offerings.

Do any frame sizes feature curved top tubes for lower standover?

Small models have a very slight curve to help make more room for standover, bottle clearance and the charging port.

How does the adjustable headset work?

It’s a standard ZS headset now instead of a proprietary part from Trek, which allows aftermarket options for headset upgrades, including angle-adjust options.

Is the bike compatible with a dual crown fork?

No, the Fuel is only compatible with single crown forks with 150-170 mm of travel.

What sizes are compatible with a water bottle?

All sizes are compatible with a water bottle. Small frames fit a 620 ml max, while medium to large frames fit a 769 ml max, and XL fit a 1005 ml max.

Is the chain supposed to be that close to the chainstay?

When the bike is in the 10T cog, the chain may contact the chainstay guard. This is intentional. To optimise the chainstay for strength, stiffness and internal cable routing, the section between the tyre and chainring is taller than on other bikes.
We also made the chainstay guard taller to decrease noise from chain slap. Clearance will increase under suspension sag and pedalling tension, but you may still notice some wear in the guard over time. This is intended to be replaced as needed, and may not be the case for all riders.

Can I replace my black and white display with the colour version?

Yes. These items are interchangeable, so you can upgrade your previous-gen Fuel EXe, Slash+ or Fuel+ 9.7 and lower (Fuel+ 9.8 and 9.9 come with the colour display)

Can I use an oval chainring?

Oval rings of any size are not recommended as they will affect motor performance.

What is the crank interface?

Standard ISIS interface for e-bikes.

Are Shimano E-Rotors compatible?

Yes.

Is there an app?

Yes! Download the Trek Central app for iOS in the Apple App Store or for Android in the Google Play store and follow the prompts.

What is the difference between the Trek app and the TQ app?

The Trek app does everything the TQ app does, including motor behaviour customisation, range estimations and general e-system information. In addition, the Trek app includes tyre and suspension pressure set-up recommendations, service reminders, useful navigation and range features, activity tracking and more!

Can I connect Fuel+ to my Garmin or other device?

Yes! You can pair most Bluetooth or ANT+ cycling computers.

Does it have wiring for lights?

Shimano Di2 and SRAM AXS-equipped bikes come with the TQ Smart Box installed. It has output ports for front light, rear light, aux 12 and electronic shifting. It is not included on other models but is an easy aftermarket upgrade.

Can I upgrade my previous-gen Fuel EXe with the new HPR60 motor?

Yes. Upgrading from HPR50 to HPR60 will give you an additional 10 Nm of torque, plus the HPR60 is more efficient and even quieter than HPR50. However, your bike’s firmware will only allow you to get 300 watts of peak mechanical power. The full 350 watts that HPR60 is capable of is only available on the new Fuel+.
Upgrades must be completed by a Trek retailer using the TQ Dealer Service Tool and TQ dongle, and the cooling fins must be removed.

Will Trek stock motors for upgrades or for warranty only?

For 2026, Trek will stock limited HPR60 motors for warranty only. Non-warranty upgrades will require sourcing a motor from another TQ distributor.

Are the HPR60 cooling fins replaceable?

Yes, they bolt onto the motor and are available as aftermarket replacement parts.

Are replacement/extra batteries available?

Yes, Trek distribution centres will stock TQ batteries. Due to hazmat shipping regulations, batteries cannot be returned.

Can the battery be charged when it has been removed from the bike?

Yes.

How long does the battery take to charge?

The 580 Wh battery will charge in about three to four hrs.

Are there any other special instructions for the battery?

Please note that the battery will only last to about 15% of its full capacity the first time it is depleted. So don’t be alarmed if the range on your first ride is a little shorter than expected. After the first full depletion and subsequent charging, the battery management system will 'learn' what it needs to know and will deplete all the way to 0% on future rides. Also note that any time the battery reaches less than 10% charge, the motor output will be reduced to protect the battery. The battery level indicator will flash to indicate Low Battery mode.

How do customers get the Range Extender?

They can order it through their local Trek retailer. Range Extender batteries are not eligible for return by the retailer due to hazmat shipping regulations. Each retailer will set their own policy regarding customer returns of Range Extender batteries.

Can I ride the Fuel+ with only the Range Extender?

Yes! This also allows you to fly with the Fuel+ by leaving the main battery behind and taking the Range Extender in your carry-on. Check with your airline before travelling to confirm compliance with regulations. You will need to order the clip nut that replaces the threads on the battery for keeping the motor cover in place. How long does it take the Range Extender to charge?

Approximately one hour.

Are all sizes compatible with Range Extender?

Yes!

Is the Range Extender compatible with any bottle cage?

We strongly recommend using the Bontrager Side Load cage and the retention strap that comes with the Range Extender. Other cages may work, but we have not tested them.

Can I ride without the remote?

Yes, you will need to connect your bike via the TQ app to toggle on the extended centre button functionality. Once this function is on you will push the button on the display to change assist modes and double click the display button to switch between what is shown on the display.
