  • Ruby Miller takes Cyclocross National Championships

In the middle of December, we brought you the story of a young girl called Ruby who has found cycling to be not only her passion but her calling. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Ruby is her humility. Despite her astounding successes over the last year, be it in road, MTB or now cyclocross, there is no attitude that comes across as anything less than humble. To give you some idea of how Ruby sees her achievements, this is her email to us here at Trek telling us she'd won the National Championships.

"How are you? Hope you're well.

On the weekend I won the national cyclo-x championships (:
I have done a little race report for you:
"I felt really good at the start of the race and went into the first corner in first position and kept it most of the way around the first lap, until the first technical section where I slipped on some roots and my chain came off. By the time I had put it back on I was back in 4th position. But I pressed on and gave it my all trying to get back into contention. On the second lap I took over Hannah Barnes and moved up into third position closing down on Hannah Shenton and Lucy Garner who were in first and second, and on the start of the third lap I caught them and pushed on passed them not letting them get onto the back of me. At the start of the last lap I was still out in first position and kept pressing on. But approximately half way around the last lap I noticed Lucy had made a break on Hannah S and was catching me up. I pushed on even more and won by 11 seconds with Lucy coming in 2nd and Hannah coming in 3rd, making me national cyclo-x champion."

Ruby."

With riders like Ruby around, I'd be surprised if her relaxed manner doesn't bring more youngsters into cycling, after all, the tree is only as strong as it's roots.

Thanks Ruby, here's to an equally enjoyable 2008.

Ruby is ably supported by her family and also has the backing of Reg Braddick cycles, Cardiff.
