FAQs

  • Q: Will the bike move by itself if the motor is turned on?

A: No. Ride+ is not a motorcycle or moped; it’s an electric assist bicycle. That means that the motor only propels the bicycle while it is being pedaled.

  • Q: How far can somebody go on a single charge?

A: That depends on the level of assistance they are using. If the bike is kept at the first level of assistance, the expected distance is as high as 45 miles. A typical user will keep the assistance between levels 2 and 3. At this assistance level a rider can expect to get over 30 miles out of a single charge.

  • Q: How long does it take to charge the lithium ion battery?

A: Depends on how long it’s been used. Typically users don’t run the battery all the way down to empty but if they do, it will take about 3 hours to charge a completely dead battery.

  • Q: What do I need to charge the battery?

A: All you need is the battery, the charger, and a standard wall outlet. The battery can be charged while on or off the bike.

  • Q: Is the battery removable?

A: Yes. It’s a very important design feature that allows owners the option to ride their bike without electric assist. This offers greater versatility over our competitors’ electric bikes that encase the battery and motor within the frame.

  • Q: Can I buy a spare battery?

A: Yes but extra batteries can be rather costly. A much more economical solution is to purchase an additional charger that can be left at whatever location the rider intends to ride to.

  • Q: Is the Battery/Motor waterproof?

A: Trek’s Ride+ uses the highest quality connectors available to ensure a seamless consistent performance. Cheaper systems use lower quality connectors which can fail if exposed to wet conditions.

  • Q: Can the Ride+ system be put on another frame?

A: Yes but the frames that feature Ride+ have been designed to accommodate the added weight and stress of the Ride+ system.

  • Q: Do I need a license to purchase an electric bike?

A: Maybe. Some states do recognize electric bikes as motorized vehicles. It’s important that you familiarize yourself with your state’s regulations. Your local Trek dealer will have that information.

  • Q: Does the standard Trek warranty cover the Ride+ models?

A: Yes it does. Electric components are covered for 2 years or 600 charge cycles (battery), whichever comes first.
