Fraudulent Website Protection

A quick guide to making sure you're really buying a Trek

With the rise of e-commerce, there has also been a rise in fake websites that advertise products that you are interested in at very low prices. These websites exist only to deceive people and take their money. We care deeply about the security of our customers as well as the integrity of our products and brand. Trek and Bontrager products are exclusively sold by Trek and its authorized retailers.

What to look for:

The deal is too good to be true

If an advertisement is telling you that the bike you want is now 70%-90% off, they are lying to you. Do not click on the ad. Do not give them your money or any personal information.

The contact information is suspicious

Trek and our retailers hold ourselves to a very high standard of customer service. If you cannot reach the person you are buying from, do not buy from them.

The site is relatively new

You can check to see how long a website has existed by entering it into archive.org. If the site is brand new and offering steep discounts, do not purchase anything from them.

The site does not ask you to pick a preferred retailer

All current model Trek bikes ordered online must be shipped to an authorized Trek retailer for assembly. If you are not asked to select a retailer to ship a bike to, do not buy from the site. Prior model year Trek bikes can be shipped directly to consumers, but only through an authorized retailer’s website or BikeExchange.com.

Ways to check:

Check the reliability of the site online

Use an online tool such as ScamDoc to check the reliability score of a potential website.

Call or email your local Trek retailer

Contact your local store prior to purchasing online to verify the website. Find a retailer.

Contact Trek customer service

Visit our contact us page for information on getting in touch with us directly.

If you feel you have been a victim of a fake website

If you feel as though you may have given your personal information to a fraudulent website, call your bank or credit card company. Unfortunately, there is little Trek can do if you have given money or information to a fake website. Trek and its retailers do not match prices found on fake websites.
