How do the new Gen 5 Domane SL and SLR compare to Gen 4?

The new Gen 5 Domane SL and SLR are lighter, simpler, and more refined, while keeping the comfort, confidence, and speed riders loved about the previous generation. Gen 5 keeps the same Road Endurance Geometry for comfort and control on long rides, and it’s just as fast as Gen 4 — in fact, testing shows it’s 1–2 watts faster.

Key updates include:

  • Lighter design – The SLR frameset is 305g lighter than the previous generation (unpainted, SRP weights)
  • New +20mm Domane Riser Bar – Featured on all models except Domane SLR 9 AXS 1x, this bar helps create a more relaxed riding position for long days in the saddle.
  • New round 27.2mm carbon seatpost – Adds compliance to help absorb road chatter.
  • No IsoSpeed – Gen 5 removes IsoSpeed for a simpler, lighter design while still delivering a very comfortable ride. Testing shows it stays within 5% of the previous generation for vibration absorption - Trek's full bike comfort metric - when comparing with the spec 35mm tires. You can read more in the Domane Whitepaper (link below)
  • More tire clearance – Fits up to 40mm tires for added comfort and all-road capability.
  • More mounts – Cleanly fits the Trek Adventure Frame Bag and Triangle Bag, in addition to top tube bag and fender mounts.
  • Updated ride feel – Delivers a snappier, more performance-oriented ride feel while maintaining the confidence and control Domane is known for.
  • Modern compatibility features – Includes UDH, a removable front derailleur hanger, the RCS headset system, 1x compatibility, Switch Pro chamfered thru-axles, and RSL Aero Bottle compatibility.
  • Streamlined size range – Available in six frame sizes.
