Physical fitness is important to Trek. Helping people be active and stay healthy is a large part of why we make bicycles in the first place. The ability to combine fun, fitness, and utility into a single enterprise is the unique beauty of the bicycle, and it’s what makes us passionate about getting more people to ride bikes more often.

On March 20, the National President’s Challenge kicks off, and Trek invites you to join us in participating in this important and fun event. Here’s your chance to make staying active part of your daily life. What started over 40 years ago as a national youth fitness test has today grown into a whole series of programs designed to help improve anyone's activity level. Kids. Teens. Adults. Seniors. The National President’s Challenge is for everyone age six and older, because a healthier nation is everyone’s challenge.

Depending upon your current level of activity, there are two President’s Challenge programs to choose from:

Active Lifestyle: If you’re currently active less than 30 minutes a day on fewer than five days a week (or less than 60 minutes a day if you’re under 18 years old), the Active Lifestyles program is the program for you.

Presidential Champions: If you're already active and want a new challenge, then the Presidential Champions program can help you take your fitness to the next level.

Why you should participate in the President’s Challenge:

  • It’s easy.
  • It’s fun.
  • It’s free.
  • Your well-being depends on it.
  • You'll look and feel better, every day.
  • You’ll have more energy.
  • You'll be more alert, so you’ll be able to do better at school or at work.
  • You’ll lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which will reduce your risk for illnesses such as Type II diabetes or heart disease.
  • Exercise is a good way to build strong, healthy bones and can help slow the bone loss associated with getting older.
  • Being in good shape can help reduce anxiety and depression, improve self-esteem, and help you better manage stress.
  • Staying active can be a great way to have fun, make new friends, and spend quality time with family.
  • You look better when you're in shape. Staying active helps you tone muscles and maintain a healthy weight—and can even improve your posture.
  • Two thirds of us are obese or overweight, and our children are three times more likely to be overweight now than in 1980. The President’s Challenge can help us turn that statistic around and have fun doing it.
  • It’s not just for individuals; make it a group event. You can get your school involved and compete with other schools, participate with your employer, or challenge your friends. Whether you’re a governor, a teacher, a community leader, or a kid, a healthier you is a healthier nation.

1 World 2 Wheels: The President’s Challenge is a great opportunity to get out and ride your bike. Rising fuel prices. Pollution. Traffic congestion. Why not ride your bike to work? Or on errands? Why not combine your desire to be physically fit with your need to get somewhere? The time is right and the opportunity is here. Check out www.1world2wheels.org for suggestions on how you can turn the President’s Challenge into your opportunity to “Go By Bike.”
