Road: Astana at the Giro

Astana,Trek’s premier-sponsored professional road racing team, is poised to win the Giro d’Italia this Sunday.  Astana’s race season looked to be relatively empty after being denied invitations to two of the season's three Grand Tours, the Tour de France and the Giro, but a last minute opening to the Giro filled the team’s calendar nicely.

Although the surprise invitation meant the Astana team arrived at the Giro relatively unprepared, savvy race tactics have put last year’s Tour de France winner Alberto Contador into the race lead.  With only a few stages remaining, it looks to be a tense few days as we wish Alberto luck in his quest to win the Giro.

To celebrate holding the leaders jersey in a race they didn't expect to attend, Trek have custom-painted a pink Madone for Alberto ride in the last few stages and in the post race parade in Milan.  Many thanks to the Trek Project One group for painting the bike at the last minute!
