Britain’s top six male and female triathletes fly out to Spain today ahead of this weekend’s Madrid BG Triathlon World Cup, the final British Triathlon Olympic selection race.
The men’s field includes 2006 World Champion and double Olympian, Tim Don, who won last weekend’s Corus Elite Series race in Reading; 2006 World Under 23 Champion, Will Clarke; and 2007 European Junior Champion, Alistair Brownlee. They will be joined on the pontoon by 2006 London Triathlon winner Stuart Hayes, former European Junior Champion Olly Freeman, and double European Champion and Athens Olympian, Andrew Johns.
The British women include 2004 Olympian, Jodie Swallow; 2002 Commonwealth Games 5000m silver medallist turned triathlete, Andrea Whitcombe; and Australia based Liz Blatchford. 2007 European and World Junior Champion Hollie Avil is the youngest competitor at just 18 years old. Home Nation interest lies with 2006 National Champion, Helen Tucker, from Bridgend, and Glasgow's Kerry Lang who contests her fifth World Cup race of the season.
The Great Britain Olympic Triathlon team will be announced on 26 June.
