The long wait is finally over - there’s just one and a half days to go before the 2008 BG Triathlon World Cup Series commences in Mooloolaba, Australia. This is the first of fourteen events around the globe taking place from March until November and proves to be a cracking series opener on the beautiful Australian sunshine coast.

150 elite athletes from over 38 countries will be making up the numbers as they sprint down Mooloolaba Beach into the water to officially kick off the series, amongst them some top names. The women to watch are the current World Champion Vanessa Fernandez (Por), Emma Snowshill (Aus), Michelle Dillon (GB) and Anja Dittmer (Ger).

The men’s race has plenty of tight competition with a top start list; world number one Javier Gomez (Esp), Brad Kahlefeldt (Aus), and Bevan Docherty (NZ) to name but a few. Of course, our eyes will be fixed firmly on Trek’s very own Tim Don (GBR), as he begins his world cup campaign. Tim has been training well throughout the winter, tucking a few wins under his belt. He says: “I haven't raced Mooloolaba before but I know it's a tough course and I'm looking forward to racing. The field is a strong one so it will be difficult opener.”

You can catch the action live on www.triathlon.org on Sunday morning at 2am – if you’re awake!
