Story Highlights

  • Bibby in Polka Dot
  • Wilkinson fights illness

Over the (very early) Easter Weekend, Team SiS/Trek fought hard to defend the jersey they took last year when Ian Wilkinson took victory.

This year was a very different story as Wilkinson fought to overcome an illness brought on a week earlier having been bitten by something while on a training camp in Spain. Still suffering from nausea, aches and sweating, and under the effects of anti-biotics, Wilkinson lined up to race alongside his team mates.

Battling through the illness, he managed an astounding 4th on Stage 1 and a creditable 8th overall on GC. Apart from Wilkinson's amazing resilience, Team SiS/Trek had more reasons for celebration. Ian Bibby rode strongly throughout the weekend to claim the Polka Dot jersey, best U23 rider and finish 9th overall.

With two riders in the top 10 of the Girvan and victories at Round 1 of the Premier Calendar, 2008 is set to be another successful season for SiS/Trek.

A full report will follow shortly.
