Back at the end of January we told you about a special mountain bike skills workshop on March 1st for ladies and their partners brought to you by Trek and ‘A Quick Release Holidays’.

On Saturday, many happy and contented ladies took their bikes (and partners!) home at the end of a fantastic and extremely useful day of skills learning and trail maintenance education at Sherwood Pines Visitor Centre.

The hosts from AQR, Ian and Kate Potter, taught MTB basics from tackling corners, speed, climbing and descending, through to how to set up the bike correctly and how to change a flat amongst other skills, whilst the Trek team looked after one and all technically and made sure everyone’s bike was set up correctly and safely.

Here are comments from one lucky attendee:

“We had a really good instructor, Ian, who watched us while riding and gave tips and hints along the way. We learnt why we have nobly tires - for grip when going through turns and bends - and how to balance on the bike while riding and where to place your hands on descents. We also learnt how to curl up as a ball when climbing to keep the balance point forward on the bike and how to descend safely.

I am thrilled as I now know how to handle my bike properly and really let it work with not against me. The joys of riding my bike have increased tenfold and the bike is now set up correctly for me. A fun and useful day – well recommended.”
