This week Astana are successfully taking part in The Challenge Mallorca, their first European race since forming as a new team.
And there’s plenty of experience amongst the members riding over this four day stage race from 10th to 14th February with last years’ Tour de France winner Alberto Contador, overall Challenge Mallorca title winner of 2004 Antonio Colom and talented German rider Andreas Kloden to name but a few.
After the second day of racing the team are already in 5th place overall with individual riders placing well – yesterday Thomas Vaitkus came in 6th and Antonio Colom placed 7th. The third stage today sees riders racing over a 168.4km stage from Pollenca to Port d’Alcudia.
