Despite the weather's best efforts it seems even more people are moving into cycling. During a very wet and windy January, Trek UK's sales of bicycles was up by 14%. In a traditionally quiet time of year for cycling, a more modest growth is seen as some success, but double figures is a good indicator that the market for quality bicycles is pretty buoyant.

There are a number of factors that would contribute to this, among them the continued efforts of the Government and Media to alert us to the effects of Global Worming and our part in dealing with the issue. 'Carbon Footprint' is the new buzzword, and rightly so. Click here to check on your carbon footprint and take a look at how big a part trasport plays.

Along with some climactic effects, there are a couple of factors that Trek itself should be proud of- the Madone and Fuel EX. After a big fanfare lauch of the Madone, there was anticipation to see if the bike lived up to the hype. It most certainly did and continued sales success can be seen as proof of this. The FuelEX, while having an altogether quieter start, has since proved its worth through magazine reviews and customer satisfaction, with dealers experiencing unprecedented demand for this bike. Regardless of why you might want to cycle, there has never been a better time to get your backside on a saddle. With the Government pledging millions to cycling projects over the next few years and people like Cyclescheme enabling many to take advantage of the Government's Cycle to Work initiative, there is no excuse. I guess with 14% growth, you're already showing that's happening.
