Road: Big Year for Astana to Start Rolling Down Under

2008 is set to be a busy and exciting year for the newly Trek sponsored Astana Pro Cycling Team. The season’s first race on the Pro Tour calendar – the Tour Down Under - takes place on January 22nd on the other side of the world, where the riders will definitely benefit from some warmer weather!

The schedule sees racing from January through to October with highlights being this years’ Tour de France including Alberto Contador’s title defence and also the much anticipated 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Alongside the renowned Team Manager Johann Bruyneel stands a well-experienced and successful squad comprising four current national champions; Levi Leipheimer - US Road Race Champion, Vladamir Gusev – Russian Time Trial Champion, Benoit Joachim – Luxembourg Road Race Champion and Maxim Iglinsky – Kazakhstan Road Race Champion.

Riders not competing in the Tour Down Under will join the 2008 Astana team’s  second training camp in Albuquerque, New Mexico from January 23^rd to February 4^th.
