Alberto Contador wins his final race in Discovery Channel Team colours in Boadilla del Monte in
The race being won on points, 48 riders were divided into two heats, in which Contador had no problem qualifying for the final. He also received points in the intermediate sprint, placing him in a good position for the 15 rider-strong final.
The final race consisted of 16 laps of the course which saw 6 riders split from the main pack, consisting of Oscar Pereiro (Caisse d’Epargne), Samuel Sanchez (Euskatel), Carlos Sastre (CSC), Alberto Contador (DC), Inigo Cuesta (CSC) and Luis Perez (Andalucia Caja Sur). Crossing the line in first place meant double points and already with a point advantage, Contador victoriously claimed what was on offer. He won the race with 10 points - 3 more than Sastre and 5 more than Sanchez (last years’ winner).
Successfully bringing his career with the Discovery Channel Team to a praiseworthy close, the 2007 Tour de France winner now embarks on his next steps - a two year deal with Astana.
