As expected for
However, despite the predictable weather, some cracking racing was seen in all categories over both days comprising of the British Mountain Bike Series Finale on the Saturday and the Trek Marathon Series Finale on the Sunday, this being heavily over-subscribed by riders wishing to race at one of the best trail centres in the UK. Sadly, after helping to build the series up to its considerable current success, this was Trek’s final involvement in supporting the events over the past four years. So, Trek riders were out in force to show just how it’s done!
The perfect Welsh weather – mainly thirty different types of rain (!) had turned various parts of the trails, mainly the fire-road climbs, into a river-like quality with rocks and roots adding to the technical difficulty of the course – certainly a course not for the faint-hearted! Many racers experienced punctures, hampering their chances of a podium position. Nonetheless, there was a jovial atmosphere amongst the top riders, knowing that their chance to relax had arrived – but only after some hard work had been put in on the last race of the year!
The weekend saw some great finishes for Trek riders. Trek VW team rider Amy Hunt pulled it out of the bag to take first place in the Women’s Elite Race and with it, the Series title of British Mountain Bike Series Champion, pipping to the post Jenny Copnall (Gary Fisher), who took second.
Other good news came for Trek VW Masters Rider Theresa Jackson, who has consistently proved herself over this years’ series to be truly worthy of the Women’s Masters Champion title. Our congratulations to both and to all riders for completing the Series!
