The Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team’s string of accomplishments in the 94th Tour de France tells an impressive story:
- Two stage wins (Alberto Contador’s critical Stage 14 victory, opening a gap on eventual second-place finisher Cadel Evans; and Levi Leipheimer’s Stage 20 individual time trial win);
- Three riders in the final Top Ten (Contador-1st; Leipheimer-3rd; Yaroslav Popovych-8th);
- Best Young Rider (Contador);
- First Place in the Team Classification;
- Overall Champion and the team’s eighth maillot jaune champion’s jersey in the past nine Tours;
- The fourth Tour championship aboard a Trek Madone—this year on the all-new Madone, a bike that’s changing all the rules by setting a new benchmark for total performance.
- And the eighth time a Trek OCLV Carbon bike has been the top step of the podium.
That type of dominating performance is enough to draw superlatives from seven-time TdF Champion Lance Armstrong, who has himself been part of some pretty amazing Tours: "I have to say that this entire Tour has been a dream for Johan [Bruyneel—Team Director] and the entire Discovery Channel team,” noted Armstrong. “In fact, I think we'd have to say that it’s the best overall Tour we’ve ever had as an organization. Yellow and white for Contador, third on general classification for Levi, overall team GC and two stage wins, amazing!"
Congratulations to Alberto Contador, Levi Leipheimer, and the entire Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team on their amazing performances!
