  • Michelob Ultra and Trek join forces at London Triathlon Expo

While Tim Don was preparing for his win at the biggest triathlon in the world, the guys, (and girl), from Trek UK were setting up an interactive expo with the team from Michelob Ultra. They brought the beer, (over 19,000 bottles), and we brought the bikes, (four).

The bikes were placed on Tacx iMagic and Fortius trainers and visitors were persuaded, cajoled and goaded into trying to match or beat Tim Don's time over a 0.9 mile course. With the VR trainers providing a life-like road feel and the course containing the dreaded 'dead-stop' hill at the end, the riders were surprised how difficult it was. Times of sub two minutes were becoming common on the Sunday, but a local Time-Trial specialist popped by on the Saturday to set an almost unbeatable time of 1m 41s! After their efforts, the competitors were given a refreshing sample of Michelob Ultra and a goody bag with a bottle of the same and a Madone beer glass.

The VR trainers were a good showcase for the new Madone as well. With the rear axle held in place and some well built guys pounding out some impressive wattage figures, it was good to see the new bottom bracket section barely moving. It was undoubtedly a factor in helping produce a good number of sub two minute runs.

At the end of the weekend, the Trek and Michelob Ultra staff were completely shattered, and, after shouting over the volume of the PA system for two days, there were some sore throats and quiet voices. Roll on next year.
