In his second attempt at the fabled mountain bike classic, Lance Armstrong improved his result by only one place. Admittedly, you can’t get much higher up the podium than the winner’s step, where Lance rode to on this occasion.
Fighting through the heat in the lower altitude sections and suffering with the cold rain on the Powerline descent, the main contenders broke away as a group of five that was slowly whittled down as Lance and Dave Weins, a five time winner of the event, eventually came out as the front runners. As the race drew on, a gap opened up between Lance and Dave that Dave just couldn’t pull back. In fact, the gap just kept getting bigger.
Lance was riding the new 2010 Top Fuel. No surprise there, but the Top Fuel was ridden to 5 of the top 7 places!
