The best of the worst: Our top classics photos

There's no test of fortitude for cyclists and their equipment like the classics

There's nothing in the world like early season bike racing. The environment, the fans, the terrain. All of it unique and beautiful. For Trek Factory Racing's first go at the spring classics, photographer Emily Maye tagged along to document the moments between the competition. These are some of our favorites handpicked by Trek Brand Manager, Eric.

Fabian Cancellara pre-RvV - This was taken on the team bus in the minutes before the Ronde van Vlaanderen. I love the sense of calm this photo has. Bike racing is as cerebral as it is physical and nobody prepares like Fabian.

Fabian and fans - Taken outside the team bus just after the Ronde van Vlaanderen. Every face is so unique. Elated children, disinterested policemen, the exhausted joy of the champion. My favorite is the little boy with the flags sitting on somebody's shoulders in the back.

Jasper Stuyven post-Paris Roubaix - Everything you need to know about this race can be summed up in this photo - the dirt, the exhaustion, the sacrifice - it's all there.

Greg Rast post-Paris Roubaix - Greg's such a selfless rider and the look in his face is indicative of bike racing - sometimes the effort is more noble than the win.

Andy with fan at Amstel Gold - Generation Selfie hits the race scene. The connection with the fans is so important to the team. Even with all of the equipment in the world, the guy who gets the most natural shot is a guy with an iPhone.

A grey Roubaix - The landscapes of some of these races can be so bleak but the atmosphere that surrounds the racing is amazing. These people had to hike in and wait for hours for about thirty seconds of action.

Strade Bianche - The moments before a race comes through town there's this shared anticipation. You've been waiting and with only a few seconds to see the race in person, you want to make the most of it.

We're inspired by the great athletes who ride Trek bikes, from world champions to weekend warriors. They remind us to dream big, and motivate us to do our best.
