Why does my digital computer sometimes lose the cadence or hear rate signal and displays zero?

Digital signals are greatly affected by metal and the human body  (which is mainly water), which can block the signal from the sensor to the computer.  If the signal is blocked during the ride the computer will receive a mixed data packet and display a zero until an uncorrupted data packet is received.
